Flight of the Eagle:
This image required “extracting” the eagle from the sky in Photoshop. I did most of that step using the Quick Selection tool on the sky, then inverting the selection to end up with the eagle selected. Control-J copies the selection to a new Layer, and from there it was just a matter of adding some interesting background element and a final overall lighting and film grain effects.
This shows the elements. The Eagle image was captured in Idaho earlier in the month. The rust texture was just one of hundreds of similar rust images I have taken over the years. The marble pattern was taken here in town of a panel sitting out in front of a Marble and Stone business on South Highway 89. The golden willows were captured from my driveway. I desaturated it for use in this project.
Besides Photoshop’s built-in tools, I created the mono outlines in Topaz Simplify. The overall gold cast was added using On1’s Sunshine filter and a film grain effect was added to the entire image with Nik Color Efex Pro.
